Prior Authorizations take 10-15 business days to complete.
The Prior Authorization process can be lengthy and involve multiple people from your pharmacy, your doctor’s office, and your insurance company. After your doctor prescribes a medication, your pharmacy receives the prescription and attempts to process it. If your health plan requires a prior authorization for the medication, it will notify the pharmacy.
The pharmacy then notifies your doctor’s office at Alpha and generates the necessary paperwork for submitting the prior authorization. Alpha completes this paperwork and submits all required documentation to your insurance carrier. From this point, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to 10-15 days for your insurance carrier to reach a determination for coverage. Alpha will notify you as soon as a determination for coverage has been reached.
