An effective home remedy to treat cutaneous warts is salicylic acid (aspirin). Place a moistened aspirin tablet on the wart and cover it with an adhesive bandage for up to 48 hours. Repeat, as needed for a maximum of 12 weeks.
Prescription peeling medicines include salicylic acid (stronger than you can buy at the store), tretinoin, and glycolic acid.
In-office procedures include:
- cryotherapy or freezing of the warts repeatedly with liquid nitrogen
- electrosurgery (burning) and curettage (scraping off) the wart with a sharp knife or small, spoon-shaped tool.
- excision or cutting out the wart
- application topical immunotherapy
- Laser treatment
- Bleomycin
